3SW - Paying for parking with your phone

Winchester Guildhall, 21 May 2008

In a number of car parks customers will be able to use their mobile phone to make a call, select the time for which they want to park, and pay for parking with a credit or debit card or by text message.

Customers can easily set up an account on-line at anytime or can do so on the day of parking with their mobile phone.

The new service means that drivers will no longer need to carry change for parking meters as they simply send a text to the number shown in the car park.  The details are then logged with a central system, parking attendants can then check vehicle details against this system via their handheld Blackberry devices.

Drivers will also be able to recieve text message reminders and extend the length of their stay without having to return to the car - handy of your meeting over-runs or you need to do a ittle more shopping.

A trial will start during April in the Gladstone Street, Coach Park, Tower Street, St Peters, Cattle Market and Worthy Lane car parks.  Five good reasons to choose Pay by Phone

  1. No need to search for a Pay and Display machine
  2. No need to worry about having the correct change
  3. No need to display a ticket in your vehicle
  4. Reminders can be sent to your phone with the expiry time
  5. No need to rush back to your vehicle - extend your parking session from your mobile.
Look out for more information on our website or in our car parks if you want to take advantage of this new way to pay.

Pay and display machines will still be available at all sites involved. There is a 10p or 20p charge for using the service depending on the level of the parking fee.

There are further service charges of 10p for any text reminder or to extend your period of parking.
