A vision for the 21st Century

In 2005 eHampshire (then Hampshire Broadband Forum) commissioned Colin Millar to report on future trends in Broadband Communications across the world and to assess and evaluate the impact this would have on the county of Hampshire during the next 5 years.

Executive Summary:

This report examines UK, European and Global Broadband market trends in both infrastructure development and usage up to 2010, and analyses the likely impact on business and residential users, on eLearning and on e-Govt with particular reference to the implications for the South East Hampshire Area Investment Framework (AIF) area.

A range of technologies is examined and compared, exemplar case study locations and initiatives are reviewed from the UK, Europe and across the globe, and their relevance to the UK and Hampshire in particular are analysed.

The report proposes a number of areas, at the strategic level and in terms of potential initiatives, that would warrant further development and discussion by the Hampshire Broadband Forum as a springboard for the achievement of wider economic and social benefits from the adoption of Broadband and related ICTs.
