Toolkit Introduction and Cost Savings CALculator

The aim of the toolkit is to provide an easily understood, maintained and structured resource into which a diverse array of businesses considering the implementation of smarter, more flexible forms of working  – but especially Small to Medium Enterprises – can easily reference and relate to. The goal is to help inform and to help ensure considered thinking related to organisation-wide adoption of Teleworking.
For clarity, the collective term 'Smarter-worker' includes:
  • Teleworkers - staff who are home based (with Broadband enabled ICT connectivity) one or more days per week 
  • Remote Workers - Mobile workers (who may additionally use PDA, Wi-Fi technology, e-work centres or hot-spots for ICT connectivity) whilst on the move or whilst on client sites
  • Flexitime workers - staff who, at least once per week vary their start and finish times to avoid peak-time congestion

A new feature of the Toolkit is the highly innovative, yet simple to use, Smarter Working cost savings CALculator.
The ever rising cost of oil, petrol and diesel is regularly making headline news, as too is the slow-down in the economy, or so called stagflation. Simply put, most organisations (and especially lower paid staff members) are finding it tougher and tougher to make ends meet. For businesses, the challenge is all about maintaining margins, retaining (or attracting) staff and remaining competitive in particularly difficult and uncertain trading conditions.
The MATiSSE Smarter Working Cost Savings CALculator is significant in two ways. Firstly, the CALculator is, to the best of our knowledge, unique. Developed in collaboration with Computer Assets Limited (CAL) - one of the MATiSSE Knowledge Exchange Partner organisations - the CALculator is founded upon recognised industry accepted 'total' costs for such as employee average earnings,  business travel, recruitment and workstation space. The CALculator has been designed with simplicity in mind - there are just three steps - and enables users to substitute their own costs in order to produce a tailored report that you can opt to send to your own email account to discuss with colleagues.
